The Cisco Industrial Ethernet 2000 (IE 2000) Series is a family of compact access switches purpose-built for industrial environments — factory floors, substations, traffic cabinets, oil and gas sites and mining operations. Where an office switch expects a clean rack and conditioned air, the IE 2000 is designed to be mounted on a DIN rail inside a control panel and to keep forwarding traffic where dust, vibration and wide temperature swings are normal.
The range covers three distinct builds, and the model suffix tells you which one you are looking at:
Every IE 2000 ships with two uplink ports, and the software image is indicated by the last letter of the part number: L for the Lan Lite feature set, B for Lan Base, and E, X or N for the enhanced Layer 2/3 images used where routing, resiliency or advanced security is required.
All models listed on this page are in stock and priced below. Click any model number for full specifications, a data sheet extract and availability.
There are 37 IE 2000 variants in the range. Five questions narrow it down quickly.
The series spans 4, 8, 16 and 24 port chassis. Copper models use 10/100 (FE) access ports — the IE 2000 is a Fast Ethernet access platform, not a Gigabit one, so plan your uplinks accordingly. If the field devices are fiber-connected, choose a TS or TC model, which carries SFP or combo uplink ports alongside the copper access ports.
Two uplinks are fitted on every model. The suffix G indicates Gigabit uplink capability — for example IE-2000-8TC-G-L has 8 Fast Ethernet access ports with Gigabit-capable uplinks, while IE-2000-4T-L is limited to Fast Ethernet throughout. If the switch aggregates into a Gigabit ring or core, take a G model.
This is the single most common source of ordering errors:
-L) — entry-level Layer 2. Suitable for simple access
connectivity with basic VLANs and QoS.-B) — the mainstream industrial image. Adds the full Layer 2
feature set used in converged plant networks.-E / -X / -N) — adds advanced resiliency and security
features. Choose these where the switch participates in a redundant ring or where
Layer 3 functions are required.Models with T67 in the part number are rated IP67 and use M12 circular connectors. Choose them when the switch is mounted outside an enclosure, on the machine itself, or in an area that is washed down. For a conventional DIN-rail installation inside a control cabinet, the standard RJ45 models are the right (and cheaper) choice.
PoE is only available on selected models — the P in the part number marks them, for example IE-2000-16PTC-G-E (16 Fast Ethernet copper ports, 4 of them PoE+) and IE-2000-8T67P-G-E (8 sealed M12 ports, all PoE+). If your design includes cameras, access points or IP phones on the plant floor, start from the PoE models rather than adding injectors later.
If the application depends on precise time — substation IEC 61850, motion control or deterministic Ethernet — select an IE 2000U model, which adds IEEE 1588 PTP.

The U models add IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP), which distributes a synchronised clock across the network. In practice this is what separates a switch used for general plant connectivity from one used in substation automation, motion control or any application where devices must act on a common time base. If you do not have that requirement, a standard IE 2000 does the same job for less money.
Models with T67 in the part number are sealed to IP67 and terminate in M12 circular connectors rather than RJ45. That construction lets the switch be mounted on the machine or out in the process area, exposed to dust, water spray and washdown, without a separate enclosure. If your switch lives inside a control cabinet, the standard models are the sensible choice.
They are software images of increasing capability, indicated by the last letter of the
model number. Lan Lite covers entry-level Layer 2 switching. Lan Base is the
mainstream industrial image with the full Layer 2 feature set. The Enhanced images
(-E, -X, -N) add advanced resiliency and security
features used in ring topologies and Layer 3 designs. Order the image your network design
calls for — it is set at manufacture and cannot simply be upgraded in the field.
PoE is available only on models with a P in the part number — for example IE-2000-16PTC-G-E, which provides 16 Fast Ethernet copper ports with 4 of them PoE+, and IE-2000-8T67P-G-E, which provides 8 sealed M12 ports, all PoE+. Every other model in the range is non-PoE.
Only on models carrying the G designation. The IE 2000 is a Fast Ethernet access platform, so on non-G models both the access ports and the uplinks run at 100 Mbps. Where the switch feeds into a Gigabit ring or a Gigabit core switch, select a G model.
Yes. The IE 2000 range is normally deployed with an industrial DIN-rail power supply and appropriate M12 or RJ45 cabling. Tell us the model number and the installation environment and we will quote the complete bill of materials, including spares.
